About
Louise A. DeGagné is a Vancouver based visual artist. She is drawn to memories and how they inform our perception of the environment around us. Through landscape, abstract, and figurative representation using a range of materials, layers, and textures, her works question and reveal traces of pronounced memory. These are depicted through the moments, particular objects, and landscapes to which they are associated.
Her pieces enter into dialogue with the parts of the past that are carried throughout our lives as well as the relationships of intimacy these create for us with our environments. Statement and subtlety draw the gaze deeper into the painting, opening the door for the observer’s interpretations, and allowing them to be drawn into memory as well. Not only cathartic, her pieces ask the viewer to contemplate why these memories remain to inform us.
Her art practice is influenced by years of work as a scenic artist in theatre, opera, dance, music, and film.
Louises most current series is creating assemblage works, looking at things a bit differently these days, iso project
