About
Louise A. DeGagné is a Canadian artist living and working in East Vancouver, on the unceded traditional territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
Her paintings are an exploration of presence and absence to inform perception of the environment around us. She looks at the space “in between”. As Louise describes, we can walk into a forest and observe each individual tree, but the space that separates them is as much a part of the experience as the trees themselves. This attention to object and surroundings informs work that contains both statement and subtlety.
In landscape, abstract, and figurative representation, Louise employs multiple materials and techniques, creating conversation and/or tension. This opens the door for the observer’s own interpretation – Her practice seeks to draw the observer in without prescribing their experience.
Louise has shown in Vancouver, the Lower Mainland and her art hangs in homes and businesses in Canada, Europe and the US.
Her studio is in Parker Street Studios, studio 208 - 1000 Parker Street, Vancouver.
